Cryogenic Trunnion Ball Valve
Cryogenic Trunnion Ball Valve (Extended Bonnet, Flanged, Gear Operated)
This cryogenic trunnion ball valve is purpose-built for extreme low-temperature service in LNG terminals, air separation units, ethylene plants, and liquid gas storage and loading systems. The extended bonnet keeps the stem packing and operator well above the cold zone, preventing seal freezing and maintaining reliable actuation at temperatures down to -196 C (-321 F). Bonnet length is engineered according to BS 6364 and MSS SP-134 based on insulation thickness and service temperature.
The valve features a trunnion-mounted ball for low operating torque and tight bidirectional shut-off, a cast CF8/CF8M stainless steel or LCC/LC3 low-temperature steel body, and flanged ends. A cavity pressure relief feature vents vaporized liquid trapped between the seats back to the upstream side, preventing overpressure from thermal expansion. Fire-safe, anti-static, and blow-out proof stem designs are standard, and low-temperature Charpy impact tested materials are used throughout. The worm-gear operator with handwheel can be replaced by electric or pneumatic actuation.
Designed to API 6D / ASME B16.34 and BS 6364, tested per API 598 and cryogenic type-tested per BS 6364 / MSS SP-134. Body materials include LCC (-46 C), LC3 (-101 C), CF8, and CF8M (-196 C). Seat options include reinforced PTFE, Devlon, and PCTFE for cryogenic duty.
